Minutes for September 1, 2022, Board of Directors Meeting

The September 2022 meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by President Dennis Logie.

The meeting was held at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center.

Board members present were Dennis, Deb Coyne, Pete Lewis, Pat Michael, Bill Picht, Sergio Ramirez, and Angelo Rizzato.

Rick Bowlby was available on the phone.

Guest – Pete Kutch

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. The August 2022 Board of Directors Meeting minutes were approved.

Monthly minutes are sent to all Directors, posted to the Club website, and sent to Donna O’Farrell for historical recording.

2. The August 2022 Treasurer’s Report was reviewed by Angelo.

There were no deposits last month but there will be a lot more next month due to the 1 Pitch raffle money coming in.

It was noted that the Citibank account earned $4.67 of interest while the Chase account earned $.09.

The Report was approved.

3. Holiday Party update – Pete Kutch reports that the plan to use the Crown Plaza as the venue is moving ahead.

There was discussion about the financial ramifications and how that translates to the cost of entry for the Club members.

Pete will prepare the flyer that will market the benefits of the new venue.

The last party was in 2019 and since then, prices have gone up, which will be reflected in the 2022 cost of entry.

The Board approved a $65 entry fee that includes dinner, wine, and two drink tickets.

4. Hawes Fall Night League – The Fall League at Hawes Park started August 1.

The turnouts have been good, averaging 28-32 players.

There have been no conflicts with other groups at the field.

The Hawes Field renovation might be delayed until next year, allowing plans for the Saturday League to proceed.

5. 1 Pitch Tournament – The Selection Committee met on August 28 and settled on a four team American (younger) League and a four team National (older) League.

American teams will play four games each and National teams will play three games each.

Pete handed out an updated task list showing what has been completed and what still needs to be done.

He also handed out a list of raffle items including the items that the Club provided last year to assist in deciding what to give this year.

There have been a few members that have canceled playing and there is a concern that some teams might be short of players, especially considering the expected hot weather on Labor Day.

6. Website update – Bill talked to the NCSSA webmaster Al, and he is willing to talk with a Club website representative and work with them to get the Club website up to date.

Brenda Guzman was an early pioneer of the Club website and might be a possibility to talk to Al.

Pete will talk to Brenda.

7. Giants Game update – Angelo says that there are only 9 signups for the bus and 6 for tickets only.

The bus carries 48.

We need at least 25 to hold our stadium ticket reservations.

The Board set a deadline for September 9 to reach 25 or cancel the event.

8. Email backup – Donna goes through a labor-intensive process to email the membership.

Pat has suggested she transfer to an app called Constant Contact that allows unlimited email contacts.

Once Donna gets the AOL contact list together, we can transfer to the new app.

Since Constant Contact allows multiple users, the backup problem will go away.

9. Señors Games – Dennis has begun taking Day Play signups for participants in this year’s Senors Games, scheduled for September 29-30.

He will bring out the signup sheets to Night Play.

10. Club Handbook – Pat emphasized the need to review and make comments so it can be published and distributed, especially to new members.

11. Player Safety concerns – No change from last month.

12. Round Table – There was some discussion about moving the October date to September to allow new member Club signups to be effective for the remainder of the current year and the next year.

It was decided to keep the date as October.

The meeting ended at 9:15 PM.

The next monthly Board meeting will be Thursday October 6, 2022.
